Maia is a *medicine artist, integrative coach and master level bodyworker living and working in Ojai, CA.

Maia’s art has expressed itself over the years through a variety of mediums from land-art and murals to sculpture, drawings and paintings found in various venues, on pavement and beaches, in residential lobbies, restaurants, spas, Air BnB’s and more.

From as early as Maia can remember she was fascinated by how humans moved through the world and expressed themselves, especially through movement. She was equally as fascinated by the anatomy and physiology of the human form and how it could be so deeply impacted by its environment and experiences. Being out in nature and with animals was a place of wonder and respite for Maia where she marveled at how the same patterns in humans showed up in nature. Seeing humans and nature this way became a foundational experience for Maia and informed the types of studies, work and art she gravitated towards.

Over the years her art, bodywork & somatic based coaching have become inseparable.

As a young woman she attended Ohio University to study medicine and history and upon graduation in 1997 took a more holistic approach to healing and health, by becoming a nationally certified massage therapist, yoga instructor and narrative medicine practitioner. She spent the next 16+ years learning about different anthropological cosmologies and had the privilege of immersing in different healing techniques from some of these ancient traditions with teachers from around the world. Between university and beginning a healing practice she spent time engaged in yet another love of her’s, architecture and interior spaces. She worked in leasing and apartment/condominium management and development. It was here she earned awards for her interior decorating and developed the skills that have helped her with transforming spaces like wellness centers and Air BNB’s as well as envisioning and producing large scale art installations. Later her passion for ecology and social justice found it’s way into a permaculture study with StarHawk and then an even deeper dive into the human form through trauma informed somatic experiencing, coaching and interpersonal neurobiology studies. All of this life experience continues to feed and inspire Maia. Her own journey through healing trauma, pain and symptoms and have impacted her art and helped her to evolve and show up more fully and authentically for her wellness practice.

*Medicine Art is created with the intention and effect of promoting health, healing, awareness ecology and social justice.
