Maia enjoys experimenting with the idea that performance art can be a way to offer healing to a group or community of people. Indigenous cultures often did this through sound and dance. It is an opportunity to see what is under the costumes we wear everyday: a peek into the expression of the cosmos. Her performance events can be found under upcoming events. Her most recent experiment was a movement piece, unchoreographed, where Maia annointed her body with art from charcoal harvested from a sacred ritual fire that she held. She proceeded to disrobe and move through a traumatic personal story who's events were symptoms of a deeper belief system of Maia's regarding her physical body. By offering her body, disrobed, to the ceremony of this sacred spontaneous performance she intended to shift this story resulting in more self empowerment and less disabling false beliefs. This piece was photographed instead of filmed. The experiment was to see if the viewer would feel/experience the power of the healing just by viewing the photographs and by adding a "watching eye" to this sacred ritual, would it change Maia's ability to personally heal? Due to the senstive nature of these photographs, they are seen only at curated events or during her workshops. She is currently working on the creation of sacred plant medicine dances that are giving a "voice" to the physical/energetic/spirit of different plants with the intention of offering their healing through the vibration of Maia's movements, sound etc. Stay tuned. . . .
